On Stage March 5 through 14th
In 1871, a choir of nine former slaves set out to raise money for their failing school. Among them were Ella Sheppard, the devoted accompanist, and Maggie Porter, the demanding lyric soprano.
Through discrimination, discord, illness, and family, they transformed their songs of sorrow into songs of Jubilee. In doing so, they secured the future not only of Fisk University but also of the African American Spiritual. Forty years later, Maggie and Ella are called upon to sing together once more, rekindling old rivalries and exposing wounds that stretch back into slavery.

by Leslie Darbon, adapted from Agatha Christie's novel
Directed by Mark Allen
Produced by Maureen Rogers
March 12, 2010 through April 3, 2010

The announcement in the local paper states time and place of a murder to occur in Miss Blacklock's Victorian house. The victim is not one of several occupants, temporary and permanent, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation scene just before the final curtain. "Had the first night audience on the edge of their seats." Evening Post. "Re enter Agatha with another whodunit hit, another of her fiendishly ingenious murder mysteries." London Evening News.

A Musical biography of Mahalia Jackson starring the incomparable Bernardine Mitchell, winner of the 2005 Helen Hays Award for this role. Mahalia chronicles the life of the "Queen of Gospel Music" from her beginnings in the segregated South to her debut on the stage of Carnegie Hall, culminating in her triumphant performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This brilliant musical tribute also features William Hubbard, who received a Helen Hayes nomination for this performance.

LAUGHING STOCK is a hilarious backstage farce and genuinely affectionate look into the world of the theatre. When The Playhouse, a rustic New England summer theatre, schedules a repertory season of Dracula, Hamlet and Charley's Aunt, comic mayhem ensues. We follow the well-intentioned but over-matched company from outrageous auditions to ego-driven rehearsals through opening nights gone disastrously awry to the elation of a great play well told and the comic and nostalgic season close.

DADDY'S GIRL

On Stage Now through February 6
Benard Muloovy, owner of Maudie's Diner, is served a full plate when his deceased wife enlists the services of an angel to help reunite Benard with their long-lost daughter, Elizabeth. Into Benard's life come two Elizabeths, and Benard's task is to decide which woman is his real daughter, but there's one problem: he doesn't like either of them. Adding to the dilemma: a forgetful waitress, a PhD student, a geriatric duo, a motorcycle mama anxious to become the next Mrs. Muloovy and Darlynn, who has been trying to get Benard to the altar for a quarter of a century. Sides are taken as one young lady reveals a secret and ultimately claims her paternity but not without a twist . . .or two.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Just preceding The French Revolution, two aristocrats play a diabolical game of seduction, betrayal, and revenge. Gossip, flirtation, and games are a mask for the underlying manipulations that unfold before us, when a notorious playboy is challenged to seduce a beautiful young newlywed. Both wickedly funny and heartbreaking, this brilliant play reminds us that "revenge is a dish best served cold."
